About Nick

Hi, I’m Nick, an Athens local helping travelers plan smarter trips to the city.
On this site, you’ll find detailed Athens travel guides covering where to stay, how to get around, what to book in advance, and the best things to do, along with the smaller details (like taxis) that can easily make or break your experience.
My goal is to help you skip the overwhelm, avoid common mistakes (I see you again, taxis), and plan a trip that doesn’t treat Athens as just a stop before the islands.
I want to share the city in the way I wish I had been introduced to it from the start.
My Complicated relationship with Athens
I’ve had a complicated relationship with Athens, which is a polite way of saying I didn’t always like living here.
For a long time, I saw it the way many locals do. Loud, chaotic, and overwhelming. Too much concrete, too much noise, not enough green space. It was easy to focus on what the city lacked.
While I never bought into the “Athens is ugly, therefore dangerous” narrative, I still found it hard to truly appreciate the city.
Over time, my attitude towards the city changed.
I started noticing the smaller spaces, like the small ice cream place with the pistachio ice cream in Mavili square you keep going back to, the pizza & wine bar tucked into a street in Koukaki, or the afternoon walk in Pagrati that makes the city more serene than it seems.
Slowly, Athens became a completely different place. It was as an entirely new city was opening up to me.
And I wanted to talk about it. I wanted to share it.
Why I created this Blog
Athens wasn’t always the focus of this blog – but over time, it became the place I kept coming back to.
I’ve always loved writing and storytelling, and that’s led me to contribute to major Greek travel publications like Travelgo, Clickatlife, and TravelVibe, as well as collaborate on projects with big travel brands like Aegean Airlines.
Through that work, I saw how Athens is often portrayed, and more importantly, how much of it gets overlooked.
This blog is my way of giving Athens the attention it deserves.
Too often, Athens is treated as a quick stop before the islands, reduced to a checklist of ancient sites. But there’s another side to the city, one that’s creative, layered, and unexpectedly romantic.
Through my guides, I want to help you see that version of Athens.
Not just what to do, but how it really feels to wander its neighbourhoods, find its viewpoints, sit in its cafés, and experience it beyond the obvious highlights.
